I felt like I was hit by a baseball bat. All the bones in my body hurt. They felt bruised and ached terribly. I didn’t feel sick. I just hurt to the core. As I waddled downstairs in my PJs, the bones in my feet screamed at me. I prepared to begin my morning qigong practice, thinking about how I experienced this feeling before, but could not put a finger on it. Apparently, my mind was still processing during practice … feeling very relaxed, the answer popped into my head. The last time I felt like this was the last time I wore those gorgeous shoes …the lovely black ones that make me feel taller and thinner when I wear them. They are stylish, lovely, and my feet hate them!
That morning, my body was reminding me that good posture starts at the feet. When I’m not wearing my sneakers or preferably going barefoot, my body does not ground correctly, being in balance with the earth the way it likes. Invariably, ALL things are thrown out of whack from the feet up.
There is a high price to pay for looking stylish and I’m not talking about how much those Danskin shoes cost! It is time I say, “good-bye pretty shoes, you’re not worth it.” Take a look at this infographic by the Huffington Post, “What Pumps Actually Do To Your Feet.” Is being stylish really worth beating up your body like that?
