Curbing the snacking habit isn’t easy. If there are snacks around the house, they’re eaten. If there are no snacks around the house, there is a trip to the grocery store and they get eaten. There is another option. Instead of keeping snacks you love around the house, keep snacks you love, but you really don’t like around the house.
I LOVE ice cream, but really don’t like carmel. To kick this snack habit in the butt, I bought Drumsticks with a carmel center. I love the vanilla ice cream, but I have to get pretty desperate to eat them due to the carmel center. In addition, I refuse to run out to the grocery store when there is perfectly good ice cream already in the freezer.
It is incredibly easy to open a bag of potato chips and find half of it gone by the end of a TV show. Try keeping a flavor you almost love around the house, like greasy sweet potato chips. They’re good, but they are so greasy and not quite so mmmm salty, so why bother putting them in your mouth?
In addition to having love ’em, but leave ’em stashes around the house, keep healthy snacks prepared and ready to go on the top shelf of the refrigerator. You know, right where your eye lands as soon as you open the door. Fresh, raw green beans are delicious! You might also enjoy keeping raw walnuts, Geek yogurt with fresh fruit, humus and celery on the top shelf.
